Here's A New One...

For the past couple of days, I've been experiencing a strange skin sensation...as if I have loose hairs or spider webs on my face and forearms/hands. At first, I thought it must just be some kind of dry skin issue, but lotion doesn't relieve it at all AND my skin is not dry. Then, I decided perhaps I have finally fallen off the deep end of the pool and I am experiencing tactile hallucinations. But the REST of my world seems status quo, so I don't "think" I've finally lost my last screw. There is nothing there...absolutely nothing to wipe off my arms/hands or my face (because I thought maybe I was just walking into spider webs routinely...I mean I DO try to keep my house clean, but...LOL) and it is the strangest sensation.

Anybody else experience this phenomenon? Come on...you can tell me. I won't think you're nuts (well, maybe a little)...

  1. YES I EXPERIENCE THE SAME SENSATIONS. IT STARTED A FEW YEARS AGO BUT BECAUSE WE SHARE THE SAME "MS DUMB FACTOR"(loved that blog ) I CAN'T RECALL WHAT THE DOCS CALLED IT. I ALSO GET THE SENSATION OF BEING STUNG BY A BEE OR THAT SOMEONE HAS DRIPPED WATER ON ME. SO YOUR NOT ALONE OR GOING CRAZY.

  2. Yep, me too. Not on my face, except that I do have cats and I often experience flying fur in my face and that drives me crazy.

My happens on the forearms and I have the urge to run my opposite hand up and down several times to make the tickle go away.

But what really confused me for awhile were the ant bites on my feet. I really would have sworn that a single ant had climbed on the top of my foot and decided to take a nibble. But of course none were ever there when I quickly looked.

Those darn ants are invisible I say. However, the neurologist says "no ants, just MS." Boo.

  4. Yes, got all sorts of weird sensations like that. I'm constantly batting off illusions, but you already knew I was nuts, too!
Total insominac last night -- no sleep at all, but I'm up and running. I see you wrote blog at 2 a.m. Hope you got some sleeppppppppppppp

  6. That does happen to me but like Lisa, I suspect it may be cat hair. I think I am a little allergic to him. I do often get itchy and feel like I need to pull some little fibers off my face. Sometimes there are real fibers and sometimes nothing. It seems like us MSers have an exagerated sensory palate at times.

  7. You're not insane....I have those phantom sensations as well and nary a spider in sight (contrary to my last post). My first attack involved the right side of my body and the second attack affected the left side of my face. I have phantom spider webs on the left side of my face and sometimes phantom ants on the right side of my body and my right nostril(!).

  9. If you're insane you are in good company because we are all there with you. I've had the wet arm, the spidey face, the scalp crawling with ants...you name it.

I get this really weird one at night if I have had a particularly active day: first I get a stinging, pricking sensation high on my thigh, and a couple seconds later my leg will twitch violently. Sometimes, if I'm in the right mood, I think it's cool and pretty entertaining trying to anticipate how long after the sting it will be before my leg flops around, but mostly it's just annoying.

Oh Yeah. I get this one all the time. It is so annoying. Ranks up there with the running water sensation.

    Stay inspired!

My skin feels like sandpaper sometimes but it doesn't look dry, and I always use lots of baby all over when I get out of the shower.
